Coastal Hazards and Adaptations

Coastal Hazards and Adaptations Interagency Committee

The Coastal Hazards and Adaptation Interagency Committee was established to address the need to prepare and strengthen communities' adaptive capacity to climate change and compounding coastal hazards, such as sea level rise, high tides, storm surge events, precipitation, groundwater inundation, and coastal erosion.

Through collaboration, discussion, information exchange, and work on coastal hazard and adaptation-related issues, the Committee develops community-informed strategies and projects for near-, mid-, and long-term adaptation, as well as expanding the adaptive capacity and resilience of countywide populations and assets to coastal hazards.

Beach Sediment Management and Resilience Tactics

Santa Barbara County Flood Control District has launched their Beach Sediment Management and Resilience Tactics (BeachSMART) project! BeachSMART is a collaboration to inform and improve the way sediment is managed in Santa Barbara County. By focusing on natural watershed processes and exploring nature-based solutions, the project aims to build long-term resiliency for our beaches, creeks, and coastal communities.

BeachSMART is led by the Santa Barbara County Flood Control District with financial support from the State Coastal Conservancy. Visit the website below to learn about the project, sign up for future announcements, take a short survey, and check back for local community events!
