Our Governance Structure

The Climate Collaborative is a free cooperative network and membership is open to any legal entity representing a regional interest in climate mitigation and adaptation action that are located in or operate within Santa Barbara County.

The Collaborative is overseen by a Network Management Team. The Network Management Team is situated within the Sustainability Division of the County of Santa Barbara. The Sustainability Division serves as the organizational backbone of the Collaborative, providing funding, coordination, and financial management in service of sustaining the Collaborative.

Decision-making and governance is determined by the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee provides strategic leadership and general oversight for the Collaborative helping ensure mission alignment and strengthening coordination across sectors. Working closely with the Network Management Team, the Steering Committee supports strategic planning, governance, fiscal oversight, and communications.

Organizational Chart
A pyramid-shaped organizational bubble chart indicating the governance structure of the Collaborative. At the top of the image, a brown bubble reading "Steering Committee" connects down to a crossroads, where a bubble that reads "County - Admin, Fiscal, & Executive Support" on the left and "Equity Advisory & Outreach Committee" on the right are also connected, both in yellow. Lines lead from that to bubbles below that read (from left to right): "Clean Energy Projects Committee", "Sea Level Rise Committee", "Guadalupe-Lompoc Intiative", "Land Stewardship Committee", "Resilient Cuyama Valley Initiative", "Building Decarbonization Commitee", and "Carpinteria Resilience Committee". Below that, but disconnected, is a large green bubble that reads "General Members".

Our Purpose

We are guided by the vision of cultivating a carbon-neutral, climate-resilient, prosperous, and equitable region. In pursuit of this vision, the Collaborative serves as a forum for fostering a shared understanding of regional risks and opportunities, bridging efforts between sectors, and identifying and implementing climate solutions.

As a Collaborative network, our role is different from advocacy coalitions that champion policy agenda, our work is focused on aligning and developing multi-stakeholder and multi-benefit efforts that deliver landscape-level impact. We advance regional scale solutions through our four primary functions.
